  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz whole canned tomatoes
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tsp dried Italian herbs (oregano, basil, thyme)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onion until golden; add garlic and ground beef until browned.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes and dried herbs. Simmer for 20–30 minutes.
  4. Mix ricotta cheese with one beaten egg and half the Parmesan in a bowl.
  5. Layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella in a baking dish until all ingredients are used.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes until golden.
