  • 9 lasagna noodles (no-boil or traditional)
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté chopped onions and minced garlic until fragrant. Add ground beef, breaking it up until browned. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper; simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese with an egg (optional), salt, and pepper until smooth.
  4. In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer with noodles followed by ricotta mixture and mozzarella cheese. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. Top with remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Cover loosely with foil.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes covered; remove foil and bake an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden brown. Let cool for 15 minutes before serving.
