  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 28 oz canned whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook penne pasta in salted boiling water until al dente (about 8-10 minutes). Drain.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions until translucent (about 5 minutes), then add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned (7-10 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  4. Crush canned tomatoes by hand and add them along with Italian seasoning. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until thickened.
  5. Combine drained pasta with the meat sauce in the skillet, mixing well.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, top with cheddar cheese, and bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
