Description

Outrageously Delicious Greek Moussaka is a comforting Mediterranean classic, featuring layers of tender eggplant, spiced meat, and creamy béchamel sauce. Perfect for gatherings or cozy dinners.


Ingredients

  • 2 medium eggplants
  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb
  • 1 large onion
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 28 oz canned tomatoes
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and sauté chopped onions until soft; add minced garlic.
  3. Brown ground meat in the skillet; stir in canned tomatoes with salt and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
  4. For béchamel sauce, melt butter, whisk in flour, gradually add milk, and season with nutmeg until thickened.
  5. Layer sliced eggplant in a baking dish followed by the meat mixture and béchamel sauce. Top with grated cheese.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes until golden brown; let it rest for 15 minutes before serving.
