Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup dulce de leche
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine whole milk and dulce de leche until smooth and warm (do not boil).
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together granulated sugar and cornstarch.
  3. In another bowl, beat egg yolks until pale and frothy. Gradually add the warm dulce de leche mixture while whisking continuously to temper the yolks.
  4. Pour the egg mixture back into the saucepan and stir constantly over low heat until thickened (about 5-7 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat, stir in vanilla extract, and let cool slightly before transferring to serving dishes.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap to prevent skin formation and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
